Imagine creating a host of uniquely-scented, beautifully moulded candles for less than the price of a few off-the-shelf ones.
]]>You're not alone.
It's one of the most delightful and eco-friendly trends to take 2023 by storm!
There's something utterly satisfying about creating your own beautifully crafted candles, and it's easier than you might think.
Our guide is packed with top tips on choosing the right kit, mastering the art of candle making, and avoiding those beginner's blunders.
Ready to light up your creativity and make something truly spectacular?
Let’s start.
There's been a shift in the candle-making world, folks, and it's all about the soy.
But why, you ask?
Well, compared to paraffin wax, soy wax is the eco-friendly cousin that's come to the party. It's made from the humble soybean, a renewable resource that's, well, as green as it gets.
Soy wax also burns slower and cooler, making your lovingly created candles last longer. Plus, it's a dream to clean up, with no more pesky wax residue to grapple with.
You might've heard some rumblings about soy wax not holding scent as well as other waxes, but don't believe the hype. When paired with high-quality essential oils or fragrances, your soy wax candles can have a scent throw that rivals any store-bought candle.
So what exactly does a soy wax candle making kit entail?
Imagine a neat package arriving at your doorstep. Inside, you'll find all the magic ingredients you need to start your candle making journey.
We're talking soy wax flakes, wicks, fragrance oils, containers, and often a handy thermometer.
These kits are just the ticket for beginners. They take the guesswork out of candle making, providing you with everything you need in just the right quantities.
And with all the components tested together, you're set up for a win from the get-go.
Now, why would you get your hands waxy when you could just grab a candle off the shelf?
Well, apart from the thrill of making something with your own hands; DIY candle making lets you create something tailor-made to your tastes.
Fancy a lavender and chamomile blend to soothe your senses? Or maybe a zingy citrus scent to kickstart your mornings? You're in control.
And let's not forget the cost.
Yes, there's an initial outlay when you buy your candle making kit, but think about the long game. Once you're up and running, making your own candles can be a real penny saver.
Choosing the right soy wax candle making kit can feel a bit like finding a needle in a haystack. With so many options out there, how do you pick the right one?
It's a bit like choosing a pair of shoes
Start by checking out user reviews. These can give you a real sense of a kit's pros and cons. And remember, just like those shiny shoes, the most expensive kit isn't always the best fit for you.
When you open your soy wax candle making kit, it's like unwrapping a box of potential. The soy wax flakes are your blank canvas, ready to absorb whatever glorious scent you throw at them.
The wicks stand tall, eager to carry your flame, and the fragrance oils are packed with an array of tantalising aromas.
And those containers? They're waiting to house your beautiful, handmade creations.
So, how do you turn this box of bits into a beautiful, burnable candle? It's a dance, really, a step-by-step waltz between you and your materials.
First, you prepare your workspace. Clean, clear, and clutter-free is the way to go. Next, you melt your soy wax. It's a bit like making a cup of tea, only instead of boiling the kettle, you're gently warming the wax until it's just the right temperature.
Now comes the fun part – adding your fragrance. This point is where you can really let your creativity shine. A few drops of this, a splash of that, and voila – you've got your very own signature scent.
Then it's time to pour the wax into your container. Steady as she goes. You don't want to rush this part. Once the wax is in, you'll pop in your prepped wick, making sure it's straight and centred.
After that, it's all about the waiting game. Let your candle cool and set, then give your wick a little trim.
In the world of DIY, things don't always go to plan. Maybe your candle is tunnelling, creating a hole that wastes wax and shortens its life. Or the scent throw isn't quite hitting the mark.
But don't fret. Most issues can be solved with a bit of troubleshooting. Is your wick the right size? Did you add your fragrance oil at the right temperature? Don't be afraid to experiment and adjust – it's all part of the candle-making journey.
This step is where the magic really happens. Personalising your candles is a bit like adding sprinkles to a cake. It takes something great and makes it truly yours.
You could tie a rustic piece of twine around the jar or seal it with a personalised label. And if you're giving your candles as gifts, why not write a little note to go with it? It's these small touches that transform a candle into a thoughtful, personalised present.
Now that you've got the basics down, it's time to spread your wings.
Why not try experimenting with essential oils for a natural fragrance alternative? Or explore some special candle-making techniques? From layering scents to creating visually stunning swirls of colour, your imagination only limits the possibilities.
Candle making with a soy wax candle making kit isn't just a hobby – it's an art form, an act of creation.
And the best part?
At the end of the process, you have a tangible, useful product that you can enjoy yourself or share with others. It's all about the journey, the learning, and ultimately, the satisfaction of creating something with your own two hands.
So, there you have it, folks – the wonderful world of soy wax candle making, laid bare.
With your very own kit, you've got the power to stir up a storm in your kitchen, concocting magical scents that'll transform your space.
But the real beauty of it all?
You're not just making candles – you're crafting memories, creating a cosy ambience, and expressing your creativity, all while embracing an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Now it's over to you. Get your hands on a soy wax candle making kit, and let your inner candlemaker come alive. Ready to embark on this scentsational journey?
Roll up your sleeves, let's get waxy!
Take a look at our range of candle making kits here!
So many options out there, right? Well, let's clear the fog. One of the top picks among candle crafting enthusiasts is the Golden Brands 464 Soy Wax. This variety is a delight to work with, thanks to its low melt point, which makes for longer, cooler burning candles.
Plus, it has an excellent fragrance-holding capacity. Picture the heart-warming aroma of your favourite essential oils or fragrances wafting through the room. That’s the power of the right soy wax!
Hmm, it's like asking whether apples are better than oranges. It depends on what you're after.
Soy wax, which comes from the oil of soybeans, is eco-friendly, renewable, and burns cleaner with little soot released. The candles burn slower, too, so they last longer.
And if you're a fan of cold fragrance throws (the scent when the candle isn't burning), soy wax is your chum.
That said, paraffin and beeswax have their own fans. But for a green, long-lasting, fragrant experience, soy wax does shine brightly.
Who doesn't love a good bargain, right?
Making soy candles at home can indeed be more cost-effective than buying pre-made ones, especially when you're crafting in batches.
Imagine creating a host of uniquely-scented, beautifully moulded candles for less than the price of a few off-the-shelf ones.
And don't forget the priceless joy of crafting something with your own hands. Now, that's a deal that'd make anyone light up with joy!
The spirit of DIY is all about making magic with what you've got, isn't it?
So, technically, yes, you can create candles with just soy wax.
But let's remember, a pinch of patience and a dash of creativity can go a long way.
You'll need a wick, and adding some essential oils can transform a plain soy wax candle into an aromatic delight.
And of course, you could jazz things up with colourants or decorations. So, while soy wax is indeed the star of the show, think of these extras as the supporting cast that makes the star shine brighter!

]]>It might sound like making your own candles is an extremely difficult process, but it's actually very easy to do. And hand poured candles make the perfect gift, and you could find yourself a new hobby.
The best part about making your own soy candles is that you can create various designs, colours and scents. Making soy candles is also more convenient, since they burn longer than regular store bought candles.
As you read this article, we'll explain how to make homemade soya wax candles in easy steps, that are sure to be a success.
Natural soy wax is a renewable resource made from the oil of soybeans. Some describe soy as a ‘nature wax’. It is a pure, hydrogenated vegetable oil that is biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
Soy wax candles are non-toxic and emit no, or low, pollutants or carcinogens. They also burn cleaner and cooler than traditional paraffin candles, which makes them ideal as gifts and to use at home.
It is possible to call your candles ‘vegan friendly’ if you check all the ingredients you use in them. It’s also a good idea to check the soy wax you use comes from sustainable sources.
When choosing a soy wax for your candles, it is important to consider the type of wax and the additives used. Some waxes are made with hydrogenated soybean oil, while others are made with a blend of soy and other oils. The type of wax you choose will determine the melting point, the scent throw, and the burning characteristics of your candles.
For a beginner, it is best to start with a soy wax made with hydrogenated soybean oil. This type of wax has a lower melting point, which makes it easier to work with. It also has a good scent throw and a clean burning flame. You can find this type of wax at most craft stores.
If you are looking for a soy wax with a higher melting point, you can try a blend of soy and other oils. This type of wax is a little harder to work with, but it has a higher melting point and stronger scent throw. It is also a little more expensive than the hydrogenated soy wax.
When choosing a soy wax, it is important to consider the additives used. Some waxes are made with hydrogenated soybean oil, while others are made with a blend of soy and other oils. The type of wax you choose will determine the melting point, the scent throw, and the burning characteristics of your candles.
Coloured candles are appealing. Bear in mind that adding candle dyes changes the characteristics of your candle, which means it will burn differently than an undyed candle. That means it might not burn well, or it might burn too hot, so it melts your candle.
Whatever you choose, most people like the appeal of using natural ingredients to make their candles or wax melts. If you want to make simple gifts or luxury candles, your ingredients determine the quality of your candles.
Soy wax is a natural, renewable resource made from soybeans. It is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. Soy wax also has a lower melting point than other types of wax, so it is a good choice for beginner candle makers.
The first step in making a soy wax candle is to select the right wick. The wick size should be based on the size of the container you will be using. The wick should be about 1 inch shorter than the container.
The type of wick you choose depends on the several factors to get your candle to burn properly. The size of the vessel you want to use, the amount of fragrance you want to include, and the location of where you want to place your finished candle are all factors in choosing the right wick.
Wicks are made from different materials. Many candles use a cotton wick. Other wicks include synthetic materials to make them burn better for particular candles.
Choose your wick carefully, and ask your supplier for help if you are unsure of the right wick to choose.
When melting wax, you will need a double boiler (or melting pot), also called 'bain marie'. This is a pot with a smaller pot that fits inside it, and is used to heat the wax. A typical glass bowl or glass containers you use in the kitchen are ideal. You will also need a thermometer to measure the temperature of the wax.
Place the wax into the top pot of the double boiler and heat over medium heat. Melt the wax until it reaches a temperature of 160 degrees F.
Once the wax has reached the correct temperature, carefully remove it from the heat.
There are a few things to keep in mind when adding fragrance to soy candles. The first is that not all fragrances are created equal. Some fragrances are oil-based, while others are water-based.
Oil-based fragrances will not work well in soy candles, because they will cause the wax to melt too quickly. Water-based fragrances, on the other hand, are perfect for soy candles.
Another thing to remember is that the strength of the fragrance will vary depending on the type of candle you are using. Soya wax candles tend to have a weaker scent throw than paraffin candles, so you will need to use more fragrance when making them.
Fragrance oils are usually made up of essential oils and synthetic chemicals, while essential oils are made from the natural oils of plants. Both types of oils have a different scent, so you will need to experiment to find the right oil for your candle.
When adding fragrance to soy candles, you will need to use between 2 and 4 ounces (56 - 113 grams) of oil per pound (0.45kg) of wax. Start by adding 2 ounces of oil, and then increase the amount if needed.
Once you have chosen the oil you want to use, add it to a glass jar or bowl. Then, place the jar or bowl in the bain marie and heat it on high for 30 seconds. Be sure to stir the oil before heating it, as the oils can separate.
After the oil has been heated, add it to your wax. Stir the wax until it is fully melted, then add the fragrance. Stir the wax for several minutes.
Now that you are ready with the wax, it's time to pour into the containers you've bought.
Make sure to use a funnel to avoid spills, and to make the process go more quickly. Fill the containers about two-thirds of the way full, and then place them somewhere cool so they can harden.
Some suggest putting your candles in your freezer. There's no need to do that, because a) the candles will cool down quickly anyway in a normal room temperature, and b) you will put a lot of heat into your freezer, which it's not designed to do.
If you're unhappy with the way your candles turned out, you can always reheat them and try again. Just make sure to let them cool completely before you do so. Also, ensure you use a flat surface when making your candles. You don’t want any avoidable spillages to happen.
Now that you know how to make candles, experiment with different colours and scents. The possibilities are endless.
Now that you know the basics, let's go over some additional tips for making perfect soy wax candles every time:

Looking to buy new candles for your house? Or wondering which candles would make wonderful gifts for friends and loved ones?
If so, you need to consider buying soy wax candles. These types of candles have various benefits and make excellent additions to your home fragrance. They come in many scents and varieties, so they can appeal a range of tastes.
But what are the benefits of these natural candles?
If you want to burn candles in your home while being environmentally friendly, soy wax candles serve as your best option. They come from soybeans which means they are a natural, renewable resource.
This means when you buy soy wax candles, you don't just purchase something nice for your home, you also invest in the future by helping slow climate change.
They’re also safer to discard if needed, as bacteria and other organisms will naturally break down the soy wax if it gets into the environment.
Whereas, paraffin wax candles come from petroleum, a man-made material, which is not a renewable energy source.
Have you ever lit a candle in your home, and thought...what am I breathing in?
While candles make pleasant additions, some may not be as good to your body in the long run. Paraffin wax burns less cleanly than soy wax, as it consist of hydrocarbons that, when burnt, produce soot. This gets into the air and can stain linens, carpets, and walls.
Many companies put chemical additives and microcrystalline into paraffin wax. This increases the candle's scent, but can lead to health problems if you experience prolonged exposure.
On the other hand, people who opt for soy wax candles reduce their risk of inhaling toxins. This is because they come from natural resources, meaning you don't need to worry about what you are breathing in.
Do you want to reduce your use of animal products?
For those who wish to spare animals from cruel treatment, soy wax candles become a great choice. Many other types of candles use animal products to create a burnable substance and because of this, vegans may find it difficult to find candles that align with their values and lifestyle.
Soy wax candles don't use animal products. If you want to buy vegan candles, look for soy wax.
When you learn that soy wax candles are made in alternative fragrances to those used in paraffin scented candles, you might wonder if your soy candle will smell strange.
There is no need to worry! In fact, soy wax candles contain scents that smell great while maintaining all the benefits. For example, you can find candles with fragrances like Mimosa and Mandarin, French Lavender, Fresh Green Apple or other enticing scents.
So, no matter which fragrances you prefer in your candles, you can always choose the option which is safer to burn. Our range can help you find that special scent!
However, if you're looking for the scents without the burning of a candle, why not consider adding a Reed Diffuser to your home instead?
With soy wax candles you get more for your money compared to other types of wax. As soy does not burn as quickly, this means you get value and longevity when you buy.
So, if you want candles that last a long while, you should choose those made with soy wax...ours can burn for 30+ hours!
If you've burned candles in your home before, you know trying to get candle wax off surfaces can sometimes be tricky. For those who don't want to spend their time cleaning up after candles, it’s important to know which ones are easier to tidy up.
Soy wax burns at a lower melting point than other waxes, so you can clean up any spilt wax using just soap and water. This is a useful advantage, especially if you plan on placing your candles in areas of the home that are harder to clean.
If you want to support small business growers, your best choice of candle to buy is soy. This wax is produced using soybeans, which fall under the vegetable category and farmers grow them.
When you purchase soybean candles, then you support farmers that rely on their sales to sustain their way of life. Be sure to check the origin of the soy wax with your candle maker before you buy...our soy candle wax comes from within Europe!
Buying their produce means this enables them to continue producing their beans and it helps smaller companies, like us, create great candles!
Would you like to make your own eco-friendly candles?
When you use soy wax, you can create a variety of scented candles. The wax is simple to work with, while retaining all the other benefits listed above. You can add your own fragrance and pour into containers or mould it into wax melt shapes. You can even mix in other elements, including beeswax, to make your candles unique.

Would you like to find out why glass candles are so great? Read our list of benefits and advice when using and choosing your Candles in Glass Jars here!
]]>
You may be thinking of buying a new scented candle, but when looking at those fancy jar candles in a shop or online, do you often wonder "are glass candles any good?"
There are so many different types of containers available to store and light up your favourite candle scents, with glass jars being the most popular choice among consumers.
There are plenty of reasons why glass candles are included in many people's home decor!
First of all, these types of candles look amazing as part of the decor. Interior designers often use glass candles when staging any part of the home, including lounge rooms, bathrooms or offices. They can immediately make any room in your house feel more sophisticated and elegant.
Candles can even be used to fit the themes for certain times of the year, such as Christmas when you can try a festive scented candle or even make your own using a Christmas candle making kit.
Rest assured, when you light a candle in the house, it can make your living space feel more homey and comfortable, thanks to the easily distributed scent. When people walk into your home, they will admire how great it smells and the beautiful addition to your decor.
You may have just finished one of your favourite scented candles and now the jar sits empty, what do you do with it next?
You can recycle the candle jar and use as storage for other items in your house. There are a number of creative ways to reuse the jar, including using it as a drinking glass, a flower vase, or even a holder for your makeup brushes, pens, or paint brushes!
Why throw your candle jar away when you can use it as an easy storage solution for something else you love?
When you have your candle in a glass, you don't have to think about cleaning up any mess that the candle wax makes.
Like, for example, when you have a pillar candle in a candlestick that is left open at the sides, the wax is free to fall down. This is not preferable as it could damage the material or surface it is placed upon. Not to mention the added worry of the hot flame or wax being near, or coming into contact, with a flammable material.
So leave the mess behind and use a glass container, your table tops will thank you for it!
On a chemical basis, most candles in glass jars use fragrances, and sometimes this can include essential oils. No matter what type of glass candle holder it is, you should always check the ingredient list to make sure they are safe for you.
Be careful, if you leave a candle for more than a four hour burn time the glass jar or candle wax itself can become extremely hot, and depending on what the container is made from, it can possibly create a flashpoint or even explode.
You should make sure that any glass you use for your candle is safe and heat resistant. We also suggest removing the remaining wax when there is 1.25 cm (or half an inch) left in the jar.
With the clarity of glass there is no barrier for the light, letting the candle flame shine through freely. With so much light shining through, you can bring a lot of ambience and warmth to each room you place your candle in.
You can even try a coloured glass as your candle container, to add vibrance to your room, the colour choice can change the atmosphere dramatically. Such as an amber glass candle jar, which can emit warmth and create the ultimate aromatherapy relaxation moment!
When you think about it, pillar candles, votive candles or tealights are only used in their original form once. After burning, they melt into a pool of wax or disappear. The great thing about glass candles is that even if you burn the candle wick once and blow it out, it's always ready to use again, and again.
Most high quality glass soy wax candles last for almost 25 to 40 hours, but depending on the size of the jar they could last up to a hundred hours! This means, even if you burn your candle for a few hours, you can be sure you'll be able to light it up many more times, making it last for much longer.
The facts are in...glass jar candles are one of the most popular gifts to give to a friend or family member. They can be perfect for any occasion as they're not too heavy to carry, making them easy to store and place in a small gift bag.
Depending on the scent or brand, they can be inexpensive, meaning you don't have to break the bank and they can be cheap to post too.
Whether it’s for a birthday, anniversary or Mother’s Day, you can't go wrong with giving a glass candle. They are a meaningful, beautiful gift for that someone special!
When it comes to buying a new candle for your home, a candle in a glass jar can be beneficial for all the above reasons, but also for your wellbeing. Choose your favourite scent from lime or bergamot, to sandalwood or lavender and see for yourself!
Take inspiration from this article and think about the benefits of glass when buying or when making your own candles. We offer soy candles and reed diffusers that give off and fill your home with the best scents!

But our favourite types of candles are those that are burned to fill a home with warmth and a gentle scent throw.
When it comes to the perfect candle, there’s no feeling better than using them to create a relaxing mood and cosy atmosphere, not to mention, the joy that comes with burning a soy candle that you’ve made yourself!
Candle making is a great and easy hobby to pick up in 2021, keep reading for our essential list of candle making tips for beginners.
Scents can do wonders for our wellbeing. Research shows that your sense of smell is directly linked to the emotional centre of the brain. This is why certain scents can trigger nostalgia and bring back cherished childhood memories.
Different scents are also known to have beneficial effects on our emotions and moods. The benefits of scents range from assisting in sleeplessness to increasing focus.
So where do candles fit in? Burning a scented candle is an excellent way to diffuse a scent throughout your space. A good quality scented candle gives off a subtle scent and is the most simple long-term option for a beautiful-smelling home.
Plus, lighting and burning a candle can be a special part of a ritual and routine. Whether it's an accompaniment to a morning coffee or the beginning of a wind-down nighttime meditation, a candle can serve as a symbol to set the mood.
With all these benefits, you might be keen to light some candles and start experimenting with signature scents. So why not make the process even more rewarding with a DIY homemade candles approach for yourself, your family or friends?
With life's constant demands and a busy schedule to maintain, you might not think that you have time for a hobby. But research shows that hobbies are fundamentally important to our mental health and wellbeing. Hobbies provide structure, help you cope with stress, and foster social interaction.
Candle making is an easy hobby, and it’s made even easier with a step by step candle making kit. If you’re looking for some relaxing DIY try one out. Kits come in a variety of scents from Mediterranean Fig, to Mimosa and Mandarin. They're simple, easy to follow, and come with all the candle making supplies you need to get started.
Candles are a popular choice when it comes to gifts for friends and family. Who doesn't love a candle? Candle making kits make your gift that much more special, as they add an element of personalisation.
From festive Christmas candles to some unique birthday fun, there's an option for every occasion. Make someone's day and share in the joy of a newfound hobby with a kit of your choice.
As we're spending more time inside, parents will know that it's tough to keep little ones productive and busy. Luckily, candle making is a simple and exciting activity to keep kids entertained indoors.
So, get yourself a kit and add a child-friendly option for some family bonding and candle creation.
Purchasing a candle making kit will make the process a lot easier as your wax and shape are predetermined, but these tips also apply to any future candle making endeavours.
The most important element of your candle is its wax! Waxes come in many different types from beeswax to, the most popular, paraffin wax. However, we recommend you go for something more environmentally friendly and less likely to singe surfaces.
Soy wax is our wax of choice, as it is longer-lasting, less likely to scorch, and eco-friendly. The type of wax you use will depend on availability and price range.
As you’ll be pouring melted hot wax into your choice of container, you'll need something durable that can withstand high heat and won't crack. Think about this factor when making a decision, as you'll need to feel comfortable pouring boiling hot water into it. To transfer the hot wax into your candle container, a measuring jug is suitable.
As we've already mentioned, different scents have different effects on your mood and environment. So when you choose a scent for your candle, make sure you choose mindfully.
We recommend that you don't use essential oils for your candle as they don't last well when combined with wax, and they pose a fire hazard. It's better to look for a fragrance oil scent that's specifically used in candle making.
Once the melted wax is out of the pan and into the candle containers, it will start to cool rapidly. Keep a close eye on it. The moment it starts to turn cloudy, it is time to insert the wick. Place the base in the centre of the candle, do this gently and slowly to avoid bending them.
It's important to take care that the wick is the ideal size, too long and the flame might be too large. Too short and your candle won't burn properly, damaging your burn time. The wick size will also depend on the type of wax you've chosen and the size of your candle container.
While it may be tempting to add flowers and other decorative elements to the mix, we recommend that you keep your finished candle as simple as possible for now. Although these elements may look appealing, they can pose a safety hazard, especially if your candle isn’t burned in a controlled environment.
We recommend building your knowledge and improving your skills before trying anything too advanced, a simple label to finish the candle off is just as effective!

Are you looking for a new hobby to enjoy in the year 2021? Do you want to make something that's fun, rewarding, and useful after it's created? If so, then you should consider investing in soy wax candle making kits for you and your family.
Doing so can help you find a fun little pastime that can fill your house with amazing fragrances all day long. Not to mention that there are many benefits of candle making kits, such as cost-efficiency and fun for you and your family.
Let's start with the most obvious benefit, shall we? By investing in soy candle making kits to create your own candles, you'll have access to as many wonderful scents as possible.
Not only are you going to enjoy the smell, but you will also enjoy the variety of fragrances that you have at your disposal. Here are some examples of scented candle making kits:
Candle making fans often buy several kits at once to create in bulk. That way, they can set different scents throughout the house separated by room.
For example, a Fresh Green Apple scent goes great with bathrooms. The Happy Birthday scent is a popular choice for kitchens, due to the smell of a birthday cake. The Sandalwood is popular for bedrooms, giving a relaxing scent that calms you down at the end of a long day.
Candle lovers have it hard. They enjoy the fragrance and fresh scents that candles can bring to their home, but they don't enjoy the outrageous price tag that comes with it.
It’s common for high street retail brands to make large profits from candles they sell in their shops. You’ll often find candles in high street stores selling for upwards of £50.
However there is a much better way to get the candles you like at an affordable price...now you can make the candles yourself from fresh ingredients, with fulfilling scents and saving a ton of money doing it.
You should expect the contents of a decent candle making starter kit to look something like this:
Believe it or not, studies have shown that burning candles can have a positive impact on your health. They can help you relax, reduce your stress, and help clean the air in your home.
They're also a huge help in warding off bugs. Common house pests such as cockroaches dread many of the smells that we love, particularly citrus-related smells.
However, to unlock these health benefits, you need to avoid candle companies that use harmful ingredients to make their candles. Some candles can affect people with Asthma, making them feel short of breath. Some people report that certain scented candle brands seem to cause them headaches and migraines.
By using candle making kits with soy wax, like ours, you'll be ensuring all these health benefits for you and your family.
Let's say that after trying your first candle making kit, you realize that you absolutely love the process behind it. So much so that you might try to mix in different concentrations of fragrances with the wax melt, experimenting with containers or tealights.
If so, then making candles can turn into a nice side hustle for you. You can use the candle making kits, keep a few for yourself, then offer one or two for sale to your friends and family.
The money that you make from those sales can pay for the next batch of Candle Making Kits that you buy to fuel your hobby as a Candle Maker!
As mentioned, large candle companies are often less careful about the materials they place in their candles. They only have one thing in mind: money.
For that reason, they purposely use ingredients that will make the candle burn and melt faster, thus causing you to run back to the store quicker.
If your choice is to use Candle Making Kits, you can enjoy your creation for longer. The soy wax burns beautifully and holds its scent for longer. You can burn it and blow it out several times without having to worry about it not burning anymore.
Now that you have seen several amazing benefits of using candle making kits, it's time for you to try them out for yourself, your family and friends.

Whoever and whatever you're shopping for, read our list of unique ideas for gifting for Valentine's day, a birthday or anniversary. From Scented Candles to Candle Making Kits!
]]>
Whether shopping for a loved one's birthday, anniversary or Christmas, it can be easy to get carried away searching for the perfect gift.
Did you know that worldwide gift spending in November and December is estimated at £143 billion?
Gift baskets or gift boxes make custom gift-giving a cinch. And, luckily, there are plenty of unique options for candle lovers too!
Looking for a gift that will be fun for the whole family? Surprise your friends with a basket featuring a kid's candle-making kit! This candle gift set is perfect for families who prefer crafts over movie nights.
You can start the basket with a children's candle making kit, but the fun doesn't end there! Add a few treats to give the children (and parents!) a snack after all the candle-making fun. A fruit bar, chocolates, or popcorn are all perfect—and shelf-stable—options to add to your gift basket.
Let's face it—a full-scale spa package can be a pricey gift. Luckily, a DIY spa day basket is easy to make and allows more personalisation than a traditional spa package!
The perfect spa-day basket will include bath bombs or bath salts, along with a candle or two to create a relaxing atmosphere for the giftee. Handmade soaps in a favourite scent are a thoughtful and practical addition.
Include essential oils, such as lavender oil or rosehip oil, and body lotions for some post-bath pampering. Add a manicure set featuring their favourite nail varnish colour, and you have the perfect spa day basket.
Have a traveller friend? Give them a taste of a new destination with a travel gift box!
Start by choosing a location—it can be as specific or vague as you like. For example, you can focus on the beach as a destination. You can then feature a sunny mimosa and mandarin scented candle or an earthy sandalwood-scented candle as the highlight of the basket. Choose additional trinkets, such as tiki glasses and tropical-scented body products to fill the basket.
Take it in a different direction by pairing a candle with a tea or coffee sampler kit. These samplers offer a taste of worldly flavours, all of which can be enjoyed from the comfort of home while relaxing by candlelight.
Looking for a gift for the foodie in your life? Treat them to a gift basket filled with their favourite snacks and food goodies.
If you're able to deliver the gift in person, opt for fresh foods. You can't go wrong with a selection of artisanal cheeses and fresh baked goods.
Sending a gift via mail? There are still plenty of ways to treat them to a classy gift basket. Pair a favourite bottle of wine with a variety of crackers for a shelf-stable gift basket.
Of course, don't forget to add a candle or two to the basket, tapered or pillar candles paired with candle holders are great gifts. On the other hand, warm, fruity-scented candles, such as Mediterranean fig, or delicious, zingy-scented candles, such as red poppy and ginger, will make the food-trying experience all the more memorable!
Why should kids have all the fun? Treat your loved one or friend to a candle-making kit basket, full of exciting goodies for a relaxing afternoon.
Of course, the highlight of this basket is the candle making kit. It's the perfect gift for a candle lover who wants to learn more about the candle-making process and would like to incorporate a fragrance, such as mimosa and mandarin, to their home.
The basket isn't complete without some snacks to nibble during a break. Sneak in a beverage of choice, whether it be wine or a local coffee blend. Add in some treats, such as assorted chocolates or dried fruit, to round off the basket.
There's been an emphasis on self-care the past few years, and for good reason! A self-care day is the perfect way to combat gloomy feelings and stress. Add in a bergamot jar candle for a touch of your own aromatherapy moment.
A face mask or two is the perfect starter for a self-care basket. Along with face masks, you can add other skincare touches. Include the recipient's favourite tea or coffee to brew and enjoy while they relax. Add the recipient's favourite sweet treat or savoury snack for extra indulgence.
Body butters and lip balms will give your basket even more luxurious energy. Lastly, add a relaxing candle to alleviate stress. If you want to take it a step further, include a honeysuckle jasmine reed diffuser too—they add an elegant element to anyone's home.
Not all of us can take a break with a weekend camping trip. Luckily, you can create a little campsite at home with a charming gift basket!
The key to the perfect camping gift basket is a "fire"—or, rather, a mini-fire by way of a candle. A woodsy-scented candle will help create the feeling of a forest in the comfort of one's own home.
Don't forget to add ingredients for s'mores. Whether the recipient makes them on the stovetop or in the oven, it's a quintessential part of camping. Add in a copy of your giftee's favourite film to top off the cosy energy!
Gift baskets offer the opportunity to get creative with your gift-giving. The candle lovers in your life are sure to love whatever you choose, from soy wax candles to scented candles. The ideas above will help you as you create a custom gift basket of your own.

As you’re often on the go, you might feel like ‘me-time’ is unachievable. Learn why you need it, how to have it, why you deserve it and which Candle Scents can help here!
]]>
Enjoying "me-time" can sometimes seem like an unachievable dream.
You barely have enough hours in the day as it is; how can you possibly squeeze in an extra half hour to spend on your own enjoyment?
But carving out some private time is essential for your health, both mental and physical, and we're here to help!
Me-time is any private time you spend doing something you enjoy, whether it's five minutes gathering your thoughts with a lit candle or taking a trip to the cinema to watch a feel-good film.
You can often need me-time if you feel:
However, you don't need to wait for this stage...in fact, we think me-time should be a regular part of your schedule, because you deserve to enjoy yourself and make the most of life!
Me-time is for everyone, even if we all have a different idea of how to spend it, you may be happier having a chat with a friend, while someone else may want to shut their door and be alone with their thoughts.
We've collected a list of cheap options below, along with some suggestions for soothing scents further down the page, because you shouldn't have to spend a fortune to have some enjoyable and relaxing alone time.
Me-time is far from selfish; taking some downtime can make us more productive and help us contribute more to relationships, as well as our own wellness.
Taking as little as twenty minutes of me-time, a couple of times a week, or five minutes a day, helps our bodies reduce stress, make us better decision-makers, and complete daily tasks more effectively.
Studies even show that taking half an hour a day to read a book can boost our life span by up to two years, while thirty minutes of meditation can have a long-lasting positive impact on the brain.
There's research to show a strong link between a good night's sleep and its impact on your mental health.
So there's no need to feel guilty, you'll be helping your brain make more effective decisions.
You can do many things to relax in under 10 minutes. Here are some self-care routines you can easily fit into your daily routine if you’re strapped for time:
Guided breathing with a scented candle.
Apps like Calm have 5-10 minute guided breathing practices. Sit down with the peaceful routine and light a scented candle of your choice to relish as you breathe in deeply.
Listen to classical music.
Take five minutes to listen to a classic piece, or put it on in the background to create some relaxation time as you’re getting ready in the morning.
Jot down your thoughts.
Use five minutes at the start of your day to jot down your thoughts and feelings. You can even do this when you can throughout the day - keep a notebook and pen with you or use your phone.
Make your morning routine a luxury.
You can add an element of luxury to your existing routine by using a luxury shower gel, your favourite scented shampoo, or buying a new shade of lipstick.
Gather your mind.
Even taking 10 minutes alone to process and gather your thoughts can make a massive difference to your wellbeing.
If you’re struggling to make time for yourself, here are some ways to book it into your diary, so it’s easier to arrange if you’re super busy:
Treat yourself to lunch.
Make the time to enjoy your favourite snack or treat. It might be a colossal mocha, a delicious chocolate cake slice, or a panini from your favourite cafe. Eat slowly and enjoy every piece.
Make a date in the diary.
Pencil an hour into your calendar, so you’ve blocked off time for yourself. You might spend the free time browsing for clothes, reading a book, or taking a walk. It doesn’t matter what you do - the main thing is you make a time slot to do it in.
Call a friend.
Pick up the phone, make some phone calls and contact a friend or family member. If you need a boost, take the time to chat with someone that usually lifts your spirits.
Wake up earlier.
If you don’t have the time in the day for me-time, make an extra half an hour in the day by getting up earlier. You could have a luxurious breakfast, take up a new exercise routine, or read a good book.
Book a class.
Book a class you can go to, whether it’s learning a language or an exercise based-activity. Put in your diary as soon as you’ve booked it to help you remain committed.
If you’re looking for something a little more creative, here are some ideas on me-time to give you some daily inspiration:
Make something new.
Create a fragranced and artistic candle with a candle making kit. Make something you can appreciate around your home.
Read quotes and listen to inspirational speakers.
Remind yourself why me-time is essential, gain inspiration from reading me-time quotes (or even a me-time meme), or listening to an inspiring TED talk.
Redecorate your home.
If you have a messy home that needs order or simply want a change, redecorating is the perfect way to enjoy me-time. A pot of paint is all you might need to enjoy me-time DIY on a budget.
Go to a movie on your own.
Why wait until you see a film with someone else? Google ‘showtimes near me’ and watch a movie alone for a few hours with your favourite actors as company.
Make a me-time beauty session.
Give yourself a beauty and pamper session at home, or treat yourself to a day out for a me-time beauty salon or hair and beauty visit.
The importance of me-time is even more critical if you have a family to look after or are in a relationship. Everyone needs time apart from their loved ones to regenerate and connect on a more meaningful level. Here are some solutions on me-time ideas for mums or partners looking for a break:
Create a mum’s me-time pamper box.
Jot down a quick list of all the things you enjoy to create a pamper box. It might include a bath bomb, a bottle of Prosecco and your favourite book, or a mini spa box. Keep it on hand for when you get five minutes to treat yourself.
Unplug your devices.
Turn off your phone, switch off the TV and go for a stroll away from your electronics. If you have a young family, schedule time during nap time to sit down away from all your devices and take time for yourself to reduce your stress levels.
Get someone to look after the kids.
You deserve and need some rest at times! Get a trusted friend, relative, or babysitter so that you can spend some time alone, whether it’s a mini me-time retreat with a massage or having dinner with a friend. Or you might just want to relax at home!
Shut your door.
There’s nothing wrong with creating some physical space away from your family if they can be left unsupervised. Close your door and build some private space for yourself.
Travel solo.
If you don’t have time to book a weekend away, just travel into town on your own when you can, and savour the private time to spend doing things you enjoy.
If you are taking the time to focus on your health, these me-time tips cover physical and mental wellbeing to boost your short and long-term health:
Start an exercise.
Boost your health by starting a new activity, whether it's some me-time pilates or yoga or joining a football team.
Improve your sleep.
Making time before you sleep to relax and unwind can boost your physical and mental health and leave you more well-rested during the day.
Cook some healthy food.
Spending some time cooking (and of course, eating) your favourite healthy dishes will help boost your immune system and implement a more nutritious diet.
Revisit your life plan.
Work towards your personal growth by spending some quality time on developing your life plan. Make some headway into achieving your personal goals and dreams.
Connect with people.
Stay connected with others in your life by treating them and yourself to something new. Why not treat them and yourself to a luxury scented candle and show them how much you care?
At Northumbrian Candleworks, we’re committed to providing a range of candles, diffusers and candle making kits in scents that help you relax and enjoy your me-time.

The candle industry is worth a whopping £1.9 billion per year in the UK.
But perhaps, rather than contribute to that fortune, you're keen on the idea of creating your own candles at home.
If the idea for a homemade candle intrigues you, why not give it a whirl with the recipe below?
If you are a first timer and this feels a little overwhelming, we have the perfect kit for you. Our Soy Candle Making Kits come with everything you need to create two stunning homemade candles.
The process is simple, fun and makes a wonderful gift for your loved ones. And it's even more special because you created it yourself!
Take a picture of the candles you've created using our Candle Making Kits and show off your new skills by posting on social media. We'd love to see them so be sure to tag it with @northumbriancandleworks
This DIY candle-making method is basic and easy:
Use the method above for preparing your hot wax, but this time add dye to the mixture.
You can use soy wax here, but paraffin wax is also good wax for dying. Steer clear of beeswax, which can be tricky to dye and scent at home.
One way to colour wax is to use small-block dyes for a rich, intense colour. If your candle is small use chips and flakes, which are smaller forms of block dye and can be more effective. Chips are better for lighter pastel shades, while flakes are better for deeper colours.
You can also use special liquid dye, which is perfect if you want to design your own shade of colour.
Other options include pigments and powders for dying.
Spring is a time of year to light candles and fill your home with aromas of blossom and fresh linen. So why not create your own candle using soy wax and floral notes adding to your fresh home decor.
Add an extra dash of uniqueness to your springtime creation by using an old china teacup for the container rather than a typical glass jar. You can reuse these candle containers time after time.
Find a cup that's suited to the season. Something classic and floral perhaps. You want to use a neutral wax for this candle so that you can be as creative as you like with the teacup it will live in.
While teacups are a ‘niche’ choice, you can't go wrong with a mason glass jar for a homemade candle.
Use a mason jar for the container - or save an old jam jar to be super-economical. Perhaps even purchase a water glass, opting for something a little obscure to really stand out. As these containers are clear, this is an opportunity to play around with colour as well as scent.
For example, perhaps you'd like to create a nautical-themed candle. In which case, colours like blue, sea-green, or pebble grey might work here.
To add to the ocean theme, add notes of the sea to your wax. To create a beachy scent, try salt, lime, geranium, vetiver, ylang-ylang, cedarwood, and eucalyptus essential oils or fragrances. Again, not all together, just two or three.
Finish this off by adding maritime accents to the jar for a burst of personality. Tie a piece of string around the mason jar candle glass, either a chunky frayed piece or a lighter snippet. Or, wrap the whole jar in fish netting.
For a truly nautical style, add a sprig of dried seaweed, glue a shell, or stick a gull feather (if you can find one) to the front of the candle jar.
Christmas is also a wonderful time for candles as they are symbolic of the time of year, they’re lovely decorations, and make wonderful gifts for the festive season.
Scented candles are especially lovely at Christmas because it's a time of distinctive, aromatic scents.
Try out a festive homemade candle recipe by combining essential oils or fragrances that represent the scents of winter and the holidays. Choose those that can complement one another, like fresh pine and frankincense or cinnamon and orange zest. These aromas are the epitome of winter and festivities at Christmas. Other ideas might be nutmeg, myrrh, sherry, cloves, cherry, and vanilla.
When it comes to Christmastime candles, be creative with the containers too!
Tie your jars with a festive ribbon or decorate them with sprigs of holly or pine. Add Christmas labels or tie them with rustic brown string. You can even frost the glass so that they have an icy effect, or dip them in glitter.
Why not use dye for your wax to make them stand out more. Go for typical festive colours including red, white, green or gold. You’ll have beautiful, cost-effective Christmas gifts, designed with love.
Happy Candle Making!

What's better than a beautifully designed home? A beautifully designed home that smells like heaven.
Having the right scent can transform your home. It can enhance the design style and make your space more memorable. So, if you haven't considered adding a fragrance, you need to think again.
One of the best ways to add a fragrance is with soy wax candles. These are the perfect way to release scents over time, leaving your home fragrance smelling better longer. They also make excellent decor anywhere in the house.
Check out the 7 most classic scents for your home below.
Vanilla is probably the most classic scent for fragrances, especially candles. That's because it's a universally liked smell and pairs well with other scents. Vanilla is a wonderful base that brings out the aromas of spicy, citrus, and other sweet smells.
For many, vanilla is a comforting scent, reminding people of their childhoods and sweet treats. It's often associated with ice cream, custard and Christmas. The smell of vanilla evokes warmth, caring, and softness.
Vanilla would be perfect in your home if you want to create a warm and cosy feeling. You and your guests will feel at ease with the smell of a vanilla scented soy candle.
Imagine a sunny day in the Calabria region of Italy. Bergamont is a favourite for those who love a dreamy fresh scent. It brings out and enhances the smell of other citruses as well as light and airy florals.
Bergamont is a luxurious scent with a citrus base. But it's an edgier spice undertone that other citrus scents don't have. The unique blending of sweet and tart makes bergamot a go-to scent for both men and women.
Evoking a sense of relaxation, a bergamot candle is ideal when you want to create a tranquil space. Your home will appear like a soothing retreat with this clean burning scent.
Rose is one of the most popular and most recognisable floral scents. A complex scent with significant history, rose has prevailed as a timeless and elegant scent. Rose often elicits positive feelings of happiness and nostalgia.
Due to their popularity and recognisable smell, rose scents are often unblinded. However, the smell of roses pairs well with spicy and earthy aromas as well. While rose scents have been associated with antiques, modern candles have updated this classic.
A rose candle would evoke the feeling of elegance and romance. It's an excellent accent to any home due to its timeless fragrance.
Apple is a scent with a strong ability to transform. It can be a summer scent with a fresh and crisp fragrance. Or it can smell like fall when mixed with scents like cinnamon and pumpkin.
With its popularity, it also mixes well with other fruity and floral scents. Apple induces the feeling of calm and nostalgia, bringing memories of crisp summer apples or freshly baked apple pies.
An apple candle will make your space appear soothing and homey. It'll make it appear like you always have something delicious baking.
There's no citrus scent like lime. Fresh and clean, lime feels like sunshine and clothes straight from the dryer. Lime is a bright and sparkling scent, that is recognisable but not overwhelming.
Lime pairs well with other citrus scents as well as florals. The bright smell is subtle and can boost energy and confidence levels. Use a lime handmade soy wax candle jar to add positive energy to your space.
Burning a lime candle will give your home that feeling of freshness. Paired with the sun coming through the windows, the lime will make you feel light and bright.
If you like strolling through the deep woods and the beautiful smell of nature, sandalwood should be your go-to scent. This rich and exotic woody scent is the base of many fragrance blends. It can create a unique and deep scent.
Sandalwood pairs well with other woodsy smells as well as spicy and sweet scents. It's a popular masculine scent but has been gaining popularity with feminine accents as well. Since it plays with masculine and feminine tones, it can be a sultry scent as well.
A sandalwood candle is perfect if you want to bring the feeling of nature into your home. The woodsy scent has a moody depth that will make your home feel cosy but exotic.
Lavender is a go-to scent for many people. This all-around calming plant encourages calmness and tranquillity. The scent has been studied to find anxiety-reducing characteristics and aromatherapy benefits.
It pairs well with other florals, citrus, and earthy scents and creates some unique blends. Though it's sometimes considered a feminine scent, depending on what lavender is paired with, it can be masculine.
If you want your home to appear like a spa, lavender is the scent to choose. You'll feel relaxed while your lavender scented candle burns.
Soy wax candles have many benefits over paraffin wax candles coming in various classic scents. Formed from eco-friendly and a renewable resource, namely soybeans, soy wax candles are an excellent option for those who want to go green.
In terms of burn times, soy wax burns for longer than paraffin wax (depending on the location). This means your candle will last longer while still releasing pleasant scents. Soy wax carries fragrances better without needing any chemical amplifiers.
A lower melting point of soy wax means a larger liquid wax pool around the candle wick. This is when the liquid wax pool with the fragrance oils disperse into the atmosphere. Soy wax candles have what’s known as a fine ‘scent throw’, which means they fill spaces with fragrance effectively whilst burning candles.
Our handmade soy wax candles are all natural and carbon neutral. Soy wax candles can last up to 50% longer than paraffin wax candles. Therefore, soy wax candles are cost effective for you. Soy wax candle spills are also easy to clean, simply with warm soapy water you can remove any residue, different to paraffin wax.
Soy candles also burn cleaner, leaving behind no black soot like the wax from other candles. This allows your candle to remain a beautiful detail of your interior decor.
We pour a small batch at a time, and place the wick into each wick candle by hand and use soy wax sourced from within the EU, too.
Customers often ask us if soy wax candles are environmentally friendly. Here’s our perspective on the question:
Your home can benefit from a beautiful scent wafting through the rooms. Soy wax candles give off a fragrance over time, transforming your home into a personalised haven. With their many benefits, these candles should be a feature in your design.
Our natural soy wax candles come in many designs from jar candles, candle tins, and diy candle making kits. The perfect candle gift for a friend or yourself.
Use the scents to complement your aesthetic and convey the feeling of home. Ready to find your soy wax candle? What scent is part of your home transformation?

Aromatherapy and candles have been popular for many years. But what is it that makes them so special? And why is everyone talking about them?
In this guide, you’re going to learn everything you need to know about aromatherapy candles. You'll find out how they’re made, and how they can help you sleep. And, importantly, how they can soothe your anxiety.
An aromatherapy candle is just a regular candle that contains fragrances mixed in with the wax. These fragrances are either made of synthetic compounds or pure essential oils. As the candle burns, it releases beautiful scents into the air, delighting and soothing you.
Most candlemakers use well-known fragrances, like lavender, rosemary, and mimosa & mandarin. But in recent years, we’ve witnessed tremendous experimentation, with the number of options growing exponentially. Today, flavours encompass fruits, herbs, spices and natural flowers. And there are many fusions too.
Manufacturers produce aromatherapy candles in much the same way as regular candles, save for the addition of the fragrance.
Candlemakers usually start with a block of natural soy wax, slowly melted over a gentle heat. Then, they line up a series of moulds with pre-installed wicks, ready to receive the wax.
Before they pour it, they add the fragrance. Then, they mix it in vigorously, so it disperses evenly throughout the solution. They then dispense the mixture into the moulds or tins, leaving it to cool.
Aromatherapy candlemakers then leave their creations to “cure” for several weeks. This process allows time for fragrance particles to integrate with the wax, enhancing their aroma when they burn.
People are obsessed with aromatherapy candles. Here are seven aromatherapy candles benefits:
For centuries, people have been using scented candles to relieve stress and anxiety. But until recently, there was little scientific evidence to back up the various claims about its many benefits.
Then, in 2009, Kathi Keville and Mindy Green released Aromatherapy: A Complete Guide to the Healing Art. The guide documented evidence that scented candles could reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. In it, they talked about how smells could remedy various psychological “imbalances,” like depression, mood disorders and irritation. And they presented scientific data on how candles could reduce stress. The pair backed up many of the historical claims about their efficacy.
But why is this the case? How can smelling aromatherapy candles for depression lead to such profound changes in mood?
Researchers believe it has to do with the interaction between our olfactory receptors (cell structures that let us smell) and the molecules in odours. Some smells seem to light up feel-good pathways in the brain, like music, at once improving mood.
Furthermore, scents may interact with the limbic system, the part of the brain that triggers the release of mood-stabilising neurotransmitters, including serotonin and endorphins. At mild doses, these smells could improve feelings of contentment while reducing the stress response, making aromatherapy candles helpful for headaches.
Lavender is one of the most important herbs for relaxation in nature’s pharmacopoeia. Evidence suggests it may assist sleep by altering brain wave patterns.
Lavender aromatherapy candles for sleep may also affect the ability to rest indirectly by reducing stress. Studies, for instance, have compared the effects of massage on stress reduction, with and without lavender all. Patients who received the lavender oil massage report feeling more content and less anxious afterwards. Parlours often use aromatherapy massage candles to soothe their clients.
Researchers have also tested lavender head to head against a leading anti-anxiety benzodiazepine medication called Ativan to see whether it offers similar effects. True enough, it did, and without any of the side effects associated with benzos.
So we know that aromatherapy candles are good for anxiety in general. But which flavours are the best?

There are currently various safety concerns surrounding aromatherapy candles. Mostly, though, you can avoid these by choosing the suitable type of candles from reputable vendors. We use natural ingredients where we can in our products.
Please also note fire can be a hazard. Just remember to use aromatherapy pillar candles safely in your home.
Whether your aromatherapy candles are safe depends heavily on the ingredients. Some manufacturers make candles using paraffin, a petroleum byproduct, which releases soot when burned. Airborne particulates given off can also lead to short-term problems including loss of breath, especially in people with asthma and COPD.
However, we use all-natural aromatherapy soy candles which come from the soy plant, not a petrol refinery. We also use completely natural wicks, designed to minimise amounts of particles entering the atmosphere.
Scented candles made from paraffin wax aren’t safe for cats for the same reasons they aren’t for humans. Soot particles can enter the lungs and exacerbate diseases like asthma and heart disease.
The good news, though, is that you can again get around this problem by using soy wax candles, made from the oil that comes from the soy plant. Unlike paraffin wax, it contains a high percentage of stearic acid and triglycerides. It also has a much lower melting point.
Common sense, therefore, applies. If you’re burning candles, keep them out of reach of pets. And store them in a place where they can’t eat them.
Aromatherapy candles for pregnancy are generally considered safe. However, there are some caveats. If you are expecting a baby, you may want to reduce the amount of essential oil you use in the run-up to the pregnancy.
There is insufficient evidence to suggest that the gentle smells from scented candles have any adverse effects. Aromatherapy candles for labour may actually help with birth.
Whether aromatherapy candles are safe for dogs again depends on their ingredients. Dog experts recommend that pet owners avoid paraffin wax for the same reasons as cats since it creates soot that harms the lungs.
you should also make sure that your aromatherapy candles do not contain lead wicks. can affect a dog central nervous system and create problems with jaw coordination.
There are plenty of scented candles out there that are NOT toxic to dogs. Aromatherapy candles for dogs are made of natural substances, including beeswax, natural soy and vegetable-based waxes. Scents should, ideally, come from essential oils, derived directly from the original plants.
So, there you have it: the ultimate guide to aromatherapy with candles. Now you know everything you need to know about these fascinating products. And, you know how to find the best aromatherapy candles in the UK. Plus, how they can literally melt away the stress.
What scents make you happy, though? Are you the sort of person who likes something spicy, like clove or cinnamon? Or are you the type who prefers fruity fragrances, like mimosa and mandarin. We’re all different!

Candle making is a popular pastime for people all over the country. It’s fun, creative and worthwhile, and it allows you to experiment with different kinds of fragrances, many of which you can't get from mainstream brands.
Getting to grips with candle making kits, however, can seem like an uphill struggle. There are so many options out there, each of which seemingly offers something different or new.
In this guide, you’re going to learn all about the art and science of making candles at home. What’s more, we put everything into plain English, making it easy to understand. By ending confusion, we show you just how easy and enjoyable it can be to make candles at home. Read on to learn more.
Making candles at home is simple and intuitive. But first, you need the right equipment. Fortunately, candle making kits provide the vast bulk of this in a neat package, so you only require a few extras (most of which you'll already have at home).
First, you’ll need candle making equipment. You’ll want a candle making kit containing:
You will also need the following items from around your home:
The first step is to simmer water in your bain-marie (or double pan) to create gentle heat to melt the wax. Be sure to avoid allowing any water into the top container, since wax does not mix with water.
Add all the soy wax in the kit to the pan and allow it to melt slowly and gently.
Take the tins out of the kit and put them on a heat-resistant surface, 6-9 inches apart.
Next, grab the wicks and their stands and straighten them, so that they’re at a right angle to the base. They should be upright and able to support their weight.
Take the bain-marie off the heat and carefully pour the melted wax into the 500ml jug. Be careful to ensure that no condensation on the bottom of the pan drips into the jug.
Next, add the full contents of the fragrance bottle to the wax while stirring continually for around a minute to ensure it diffuses evenly.
Next, pour the mixture into the tins, filling it to the level of the indentation. Avoid overfilling and leave any excess wax to cool in the jug.
You may see some air bubbles forming after you pour the wax. Carefully pop them with a wooden stick provided in the candle making kit. (Please note if you use the end of a wooden spoon, it will retain the fragrance, making it unsuitable for cooking applications.)
Once the wax is out of the pan and into the tins, it will start to cool rapidly. Keep a close eye on it. The moment it starts to turn cloudy, it is time to insert the wicks.
Put the wicks into the tins, placing their bases in the centre of each. Do this gently and slowly to avoid bending them.
The wicks may not support themselves in the cooling wax. Use two wooden sticks placed crosswise over the tin to hold them in place and stop them from falling over.
Check for air bubbles for a second time, popping any you find with another wooden stick.
Check again to make sure that the bases of the wicks are still in the centre of the tins. Only move them if doing so doesn’t disturb the setting wax. Sometimes, moving the wicks can cause ripples.
Leave the candles to cool for at least a couple of hours or, ideally, overnight.
Use the scissors to trim the wick, so it sits about ¼ inch above the surface of the wax.
The maximum recommended burning time for candles is 3-4 hours per burn. If candles burn longer than this, they may smoke.
There are all kinds of reasons why you might want to make candles at home using a candle making kit.
The candle making process is straightforward if you use a candle making kit. Everything you need is right there, ready and waiting to go.
The most complicated part of the process is ensuring that you correctly place the wick. Try, if possible, to set it centrally in the provided tin while gently applying pressure to avoid bending. Also, be sure to prevent any water from mixing with the wax. Water and wax do not blend. Combining them could compromise the integrity of the finished candle.
It depends. If you only make one or two candles with your candle making kit, the cost per unit will be higher than going to the store. If, however, you stock up on soy wax, wicks and scents, you can dramatically reduce the price you pay by creating them yourself.
Buying speciality candles new can get expensive. But once you have all the ingredients and a well-stocked supply of the essentials, you can often produce them more cheaply.
You can get candle making kits for kids, candle making kits for adults, candle making kits for beginners and candle making supplies for different events throughout the year, including Christmas and birthdays.
All homemade candle making kits from us are £15.99 and come with the equipment you need to make the perfect candles.
The fragrances are of the highest quality and are all-natural. Unlike cheap, synthetic fragrances, they do not emit a cloying aroma. Instead, they fill your home with beautiful scents, as you would find them in their natural form.
Furthermore, you get the precise amount of perfume you need for the wax, ensuring optimal concentration. Too much fragrance and you can disrupt the structure of the wax. Too little, and you won’t get the fragrant aroma you desire!
Choosing the best candle making kits is a relatively straightforward process. First, look for products that don’t require you to buy any additional equipment, besides the package itself. All other items should be things you already have in your home, like wooden spoons and scissors.
Second, look for candle making kits that allow you to reuse various critical components, like the tins that contain the wax, saving you money. You should be able to buy new wax and wicks and start the entire process all over again.
Third, look for kits that offer you plenty of customisation options. You want to choose from various scents and design your own labels.
You should expect the following from any candle making kit you buy:
Besides these items, you will need the everyday household items we describe above, like a bain-marie, scissors, and a wooden spoon.
The great thing about soy candle making kits in the UK is they put you in control of what goes into your candle. You can choose the ideal scent for your home, instead of putting up with the fragrances included by manufacturers.
We offer various kits, providing a host of different fragrances, including seasonal spice, cinnamon, Mediterranean fig, strawberries and cream, mimosas and mandarin, and honeysuckle jasmine. There are also dozens of other fragrances you can purchase separately, all inspired by natural flowers, fruits, herbs and spices.
Soy candles tend to take around 24 hours to set, but the wax can cool in as little as two hours.
However, when you add a fragrance to soy candles, you may want to wait up to a month for them to “cure.”
Curing here means something different from what it means in soap-making (where it refers to waiting for moisture to evaporate from the interior of the bar). For candles, it describes the process by which the fragrance chemicals bind with the wax, assisting diffusing when later burned. Curing candles can take up to a month.
Adding a small amount of wax to a candle is desirable. If, however, you add too much, the structure of the wax will collapse, and you’ll wind up with a frothy mess.
We recommend using less than one part fragrance to every ten parts wax. If you increase fragrance levels higher than this, the wax itself can become flammable.
Ideally, you should add fragrance to soy wax about 10-15 degrees above the wax’s melting point.
The melting point of soy wax varies from 49 to 82 C, depending on the blend. If the melting point of your wax is 60 C, then you should add the fragrance at between 70 and 75 C.
Adding the fragrance while the wax is above its melting point gives you plenty of time to stir it in, before pouring it into tins.

The best candle making kits in the UK allow people to indulge their creative passions while breaking down the process into a series of simple steps.
